Ngata Centenary Doctoral Scholarship

Congratulations to English Department postgraduate student Lloyd Carpenter (Ngati Toa) on being awarded the prestigious Ngata Centenary Doctoral Scholarship.

This scholarship, tenable for study towards the degree of Doctor of Philosophy at the University of Canterbury, was established in 1994 on the occasion of the centenary of the graduation of the first New Zealand Māori graduate, Apirana Ngata.

Next year Lloyd will begin writing a dissertation on the Cultural History of the New Zealand Goldfields under the supervision of Associate Professors Philip Armstrong and Paul Millar.
